How to take car listing photos that sell
Photos do most of the selling on a car listing. Buyers decide in a second whether to tap, so the picture has to be clean, well-lit and obvious. You do not need a camera or a studio โ a phone and these ten habits will get you most of the way.
Wash the car first
The single cheapest upgrade. Clean paint reflects light and reads as cared-for. Wipe the glass and dress the tires while you are at it.
Shoot in soft daylight
Early morning or late afternoon light is even and flattering. Avoid harsh midday sun, which blows out highlights, and never use flash on paint.
Find a clean, open spot
Pull away from bins, other cars, wires and busy backgrounds. If a tidy location is hard to find, a car photo background editor can swap the surroundings for you afterwards.
Lead with the three-quarter angle
Stand near a front corner so you see the front and one side at once. It shows the car's shape best and makes the strongest first thumbnail.
Get down to hood height
Crouch so the camera is roughly level with the hood line. Shooting down from standing height makes any car look small and awkward.
Fill the frame, but leave breathing room
The car should own the shot without touching the edges. Keep the whole vehicle in frame and hold the phone level so lines stay straight.
Cover every angle
Front three-quarter, rear three-quarter, both sides, front, rear, wheels, dashboard, seats, odometer and engine bay. Buyers trust listings that hide nothing.
Photograph the flaws honestly
Show scratches, wear and any damage clearly. Honest photos build trust, cut time-wasting questions and protect you after the sale.
Blank your license plate
Do not broadcast your plate to strangers. Cover it, or let the editor blank it automatically for privacy.
Keep the set consistent
Matching light and background across every shot makes the whole listing look professional. This matters even more across a dealership's inventory.
Skip the perfect location
Snap the car wherever it is. Revv cleans the background, blanks the plate and polishes the paint โ and writes the listing. First photo free.
Try it on your car โThen write the listing to match
Great photos pull the click; a clear listing closes it. State the year, make, model and trim, the real mileage, service history and any known issues, then set a fair asking price. Revv drafts a title, description, price range and search tags from your photo so you have a running start โ you fill in the facts only you know. When the pictures and the words agree, buyers trust the listing.
